Eddie Redmayne: Awards Season Has Been ‘Absolutely Astonishing’

So far, the 33-year-old who plays physicist Stephen Hawking in the critically-acclaimed, The Theory of Everything, has already scored a SAG and Golden Globe award for his lead role in the James Marsh-directed film.
“It’s the most extraordinary kind of — it’s like sort of an euphoric blur really,” he told On Air with Ryan Seacrest on Wednesday. “It’s very difficult [to describe]. I think I need to wait a few months or a year or two to look back on it and try to take it all in. But it’s been absolutely astonishing.” - See more

In his review of “The Theory of Everything,” the WSJ’s Joe Morgenstern called Redmayne’s performance brilliant. He wrote:

With a lesser actor in the role, “The Theory of Everything” might have been a story of disability and not a lot more. (Thanks to makeup, facial prosthetics and just plain skillful acting, Hawking on screen bears an eerie resemblance to the man we’ve come to know from photographs and news clips.) In Mr. Redmayne’s wonderfully subtle interpretation, however, Stephen is often sweet, sometimes tender, an irrepressible genius with a sly sense of humor and a capacity for love that isn’t confined to a single woman, just as Jane’s isn’t confined to a single man.
